The Young Ones
Sundays at 10:30pm
There are times one is grateful that one can't smell through your television set. Watching The Young Ones: is one of those times, because if you could smell through the telly, you'd need a mask. Can you imagine how that apartment -- and the characters -- must reek, and let's not even imagine their bathroom. Neil the suicidal hippie, Rick the hopped up anarchist, Vyvyan the punk, and Mike TheCoolPerson live in squalor and dish out violent slapstick that makes you squirm and, as kids say these days, throw up a little in your mouth. The Young Ones is regarded as key in the rise of "alternative comedy" in the 1980s, an in-your-face reaction to the era of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
